Professional Development Request Form Directions for Principals:
1. Upon receiving a Professional Development request from your staff:
* Ensure that all parts are filled out completely and all attachments are included.
* Ensure timeline has been met.
* If these have not been met, return forms to staff member.
2. Principal Approval: Principals have discretion on whether or not to approve professional development requests based on organizational need. Some questions for you to consider in deciding whether or not to grant the request:
* Has the staff member had an opportunity to attend professional development in the past?
* Is the Professional Development itself legitimate and worth the expense? Look closely at the content being delivered.
* How big of an impact will the content of the Professional Development have on your school and the organization as a whole? Since the budget is limited, you wouldn’t want to spend it all on a topic that only benefits a few people, for example.
* Has the staff member thought out his/her plan for coverage, making up deadlines, and redelivery of the professional development? Remember, you have the option to return the form to the staff member and ask for more information or for him/her to fill it out more completely.
* Review your school calendar. Organizationally (business wise), can your campus handle the absence? Note, teachers should not request Professional Development during ISANA’s Professional Development Days.
* Do you have money in your budget to approve?
If you grant approval, check the appropriate box and forward all information in one email to the Director of School Services, Assistant Director of School Services, and CEO for final approval.
3. If approved from Central Offices, next steps:
* Teachers are entitled to have the conference fees as well as food, lodging and transportation paid.
* Principals should book the conference, lodging, and transportation for the teacher to ensure best price. Remember to send all expenses through Expense Watch.
* Arrange for coverage.
* Ensure that teachers turn in fully developed Professional Development plans for redelivery within two weeks of attending and the Director and Assistant Director have been cc’d on this email.
